The Mosman

A quality kitchen from a waterside Mosman home, carefully reimagined for a new family space in North Parramatta.

Originally positioned in a home overlooking the water, the kitchen was being removed after the homeowners reconfigured their living spaces and needed a completely different layout.

It was still functional.
Still well made.
Still full of value.

It just no longer belonged in that home.

Rather than see it removed and discarded, Fennel looked at what it could become next.

More than a kitchen transfer

The Mosman became more than a kitchen moved from one house to another.

The cabinetry, doors and marble benchtops were carefully documented, transported, resized and reimagined for an entirely new home.

What began as one kitchen became:

A new kitchen space.
A bathroom vanity.
A bedroom wardrobe.
A TV console.

The project showed that when materials are well made, they do not need to have only one use, one layout or one life.

Designed again

The goal was never to recreate the original kitchen exactly.

The original layout belonged to another home, another family and another way of living.

For North Parramatta, the kitchen had to be reconsidered.

What could stay?
What needed to change?
What could be resized?
What could be given a different purpose altogether?

This is where reuse becomes design.

Not everything fitted perfectly.
Not everything could be used in the same way.
But almost everything had potential.

Adapted along the way

Working with existing materials required constant adaptation.

Some pieces were more worn than expected once dismantled. Some dimensions needed rethinking. Some plans changed during installation.

That was part of the process.

The value of reuse is not that everything is perfect from the beginning. It is that good materials are worth working with.

The result feels considered, practical and entirely at home in its new space.

New to this home. Not new to the world.

The finished kitchen is not brand new, and that is the point.

It carries the quality of the original kitchen, but it has been redesigned for a new home, a new layout and a new stage of life.

The Mosman proved the idea at the heart of Fennel:

A kitchen does not need to start from new to feel beautiful, functional and deeply considered.
